The Baptist Church
in Norrköping

- a Christian church, open to everyone seeking fellowship, Christian faith and a Christian life.

Norrköping Baptist Church is connected to the Swedish Baptist Union and the Baptist Östgöta district.

The foundations for the life of the church is the Bible and its witness about the life and identity of the Christian Church.

The first Baptist church in Norrköping was founded in 1854. The second Baptist Church was founded in 1911, and in 1974 these two churches united to form what is now the present Baptist Church in Norrköping.

Aims

The aim of the church is to convey God's love in the following ways:

  • To go out into the world by the power of the Holy Spirit, to witness and win people for Jesus Christ

  • Baptise

  • Teach

  • Care

  • Worship

The church wants to be a meeting place, where people of different ages, nationalities, beliefs, etc. can meet each other and also meet God.

The church wants to be a place for growing in faith, in fellowship and in personal development.

The church wants to be a place of worship, where we both individually and together come before God for worship, praise, offering of prayers, preaching, witnessing, Baptism and Communion.

Premises

The church has its main activities in the Baptist Church building, situated in the middle of the city of Norrköping. Here the Café Vetekornet gives the church an open profile. The church also has activities in Väsby summer house, near Skärblacka, and at Asptorp in Stavsjö.

Activities

Several committees work with specific activities:

The Café Committee is responsible for the religious activities in Café Vetekornet.

The Theology and Worship Committee is responsible for the planning and contents of worship and religious teaching.

The Committee for Children and Young People runs different activities for children and young people.

At all levels the church wants to be open to everyone.

We have a newspaper "Gemenskap" (fellowship) which comes out four times a year, where you can read about what happens in the church.

Ecumenical Connections

At a national level, the Swedish Baptist Union is connected to the Swedish Christian Council and the Free Church Council. The Swedish Baptist Union is also one of the principals of the free church assistance organisation "Diakonia".

A special relation exists with the two Christian Unions the "Evangeliska Frikyrkan " and the "Svenska Missionskyrkan", the latter particularly with the Theological College in Stockholm and the Christian weekly newspaper "Sändaren".

At a local level, we cooperate with other Christian churches in Norrköping, and we are also involved in social activities such as the hospital church, development aid with "Bröd till Bröder" and the churches for tourists in the surroundings (the Kolmården church in the zoo and Capella Ecumenica in the archipelago).

The young people in the church also have joint activities with other churches, in particular the nearby Mission Church.

Employed Staff

The church currently has one minister, Margaretha Rudén.

Samuel Östersjö is a a youth leader.

Siw Johannesson is the secretary and Åsa Disefjord is responsible for the Café.
